Our expertise in graphic design encompasses branding and identity development, logo design, brochure and leaflet production, poster design, website design, and marketing collateral. We are adept at crafting visually compelling and effective communications that leave a lasting impression.
Within the realm of publishing design, our skillset extends to book design, from concept and typography to layout and production. We have a particular passion for book design and understand the unique demands of this intricate art form. Whether it is a novel, anthology, or non-fiction work, we collaborate closely with authors and publishers to create visually stunning and engaging books that elevate the reading experience.
Illustrating Imagination: Royal Mail Classic Science Fiction Stamps
One of our most notable projects was for Royal Mail, designing a captivating set of stamps celebrating the rich history of British science fiction.
The challenge was to capture the essence of six seminal novels in a visually arresting manner on a miniature canvas. We carefully curated a group of talented illustrators, each tasked with visualizing a "key evolutionary moment" from a chosen text. The set included stamps featuring works by celebrated authors like Mary Shelley, H.G Wells, Aldous Huxley, John Wyndham, Arthur C Clarke, and Doris Lessing.
This project, launched in 2021, marked both the 75th anniversary of the passing of H.G Wells and the 70th anniversary of John Wyndham's "The Day of the Triffids", adding historical significance to the artistic endeavour.
Capture the Whimsical: Random Spectacular Journal Design
Another striking project involved collaborating with St. Jude's to design a visually captivating journal. The publication featured a selection of illustrations and written pieces from renowned artists and illustrators, including iconic names like Jonny Hannah, Jake Tilson, Rob Ryan, and Maggie Hambling.
The journal's cover image paid homage to the masterful wood engraving by Eric Ravilious, setting a tone of artistic precision and whimsical charm. Designed to accompany a collaborative exhibition at the Fry Art Gallery, this journal served as a companion piece to the exhibition, showcasing works from the gallery's collection and offering insightful commentary. Notably, all profits generated from the journal were generously donated to the Fry Art Gallery Building Fund.
Celebrating Dreamscapes: Derek Jarman's Garden Notebook
Our work for the Garden Museum on the exhibition "My Garden's Boundaries are the Horizon" focused on the life and work of filmmaker and artist Derek Jarman.
The exhibition explored Jarman's profound love for nature, manifested in the wild garden he cultivated at his Dungeness cottage, Prospect Cottage. We designed a beautifully produced book to accompany this sensitive and inspiring exhibition.
The book featured a tapestry of personal images from Jarman's life, including snapshots of his childhood garden, captivating stills from his films, and his own captivating artwork. Woven throughout the visual narratives were insightful essays and articles, including a powerful personal reflection on Jarman by photographer Howard Sooley.
To enhance the sensory experience, we carefully selected a series of Sooley's photographs, printed on archival photographic paper, and integrated them directly within the text. The book's cover design mirrored the distinct weathered timber of Prospect Cottage, with debossed rules and typeface echoing its rustic charm.
The colour accents on the book's edges mirrored the vibrant yellow hues of the cottage's painted doors and windows, adding a touch of Jarman's artistry to the design.
